Kenway, which acquired Harbor last year, is expanding to absorb Harbor's manufacturing operations.
Composite marine structures specialist Harbor Technologies (Brunswick, ME, US), which was acquired in 2015 by Kenway Corp. (Augusta, ME), reports that it has become a division of Kenway. Kenway is expanding its operations with the addition of 929m2 of manufacturing space in Augusta to accommodate the Harbor Technologies acquisition. The Harbor Technologies administrative and sales team will remain in Brunswick, while its workforce is relocating to Augusta.
Harbor also reports that it recently delivered 20 marine camels to Marathon Construction Corp. in San Diego, CA, US. The docking camels are for the rebuilt Nimitz Marine Facility Pier (MarFac), the home port and technical support center for the Scripps oceanographic research fleet. The facility has a 110m finger pier and an 85m quay wall. Up to seven ships at a time can berth here along with its 102m research platform FLIP, so named because it functions in both a horizontal and vertical orientation.
Also, Harbor says the new Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridge (NJ, US) is now outfitted with HarborPiles from Harbor Technologies. The company supplied 16-inch diameter pilings to the Schiavone Construction Co. for the Manahawkin Bridge Fender System. The HarborPiles were up to 20.7m long. The New Jersey Department of Transportation specified an all-composite bridge fender system, understanding that composites offer a superior design life and important energy-absorbing properties.
