StormStrong® Deadend Crossarms
Location: New Enterprise, PA |
Project: StormStrong® Deadend Crossarms |
Product: Prefabricated StormStrong® FRP Composites
In 2015, New Enterprise REC’s utility replacement pole program for Huntingdon County led to a search for more robust deadend crossarms. A neighboring co-op introduced the New Enterprise crew to Creative Composite Group’s StormStrong® FRP deadend crossarms. The pultruded product is RUS approved and has been engineered to meet National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements. Lighter and stronger than conventional wood products, StormStrong FRP crossarms are not susceptible to woodpeckers and termites, won’t rot and contain no hazardous chemicals or pesticides. New Enterprise REC found StormStrong crossarms faster and easier to install then wood counterparts. For applications requiring multiple crossarms, one FRP double deadend crossarm can take the place of two or three wood crossarms. That means lower material costs and reduced labor. New Enterprise REC has since installed nearly 225 StormStrong FRP deadend crossarms. The company has standardized on StormStrong crossarms for deadend and double deadend applications. CCG’s FRP crossarm products are available in multiple sizes and come with or without hardware. Three layers of UV protection deliver superior, long-lasting performance. StormStrong FRP crossarms have been designed to increase grid reliability.

StormStrong deadend crossarms enhance power line support and grid resiliency. When New Enterprise Rural Electric Co-op began replacing crossarms in Huntingdon County, the company decided to "beef up" its crossarms with composites. A neighboring co-op introduced New Enterprise REC to StormStrong® FRP composite products that outperform conventional wood crossarms and have higher dielectric strength.
