FRP Stair and Ramps
Composite Stairs and Rails Platforms
Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite materials are increasingly being used as an attractive alternative for stairs and ramps at rail platforms. Traditionally switchback ramps at transit stations are constructed with reinforced concrete. However, if you are dealing with large amount of pedestrian traffic, spatial constraints and complex design requirements, concrete may not be the right material for you and your labor costs.
FRP is almost 80 percent lighter than concrete and quick to install eliminating issues with traffic disruption and the need for extra manpower and machinery needed to lift and position heavy concrete ramps. The value is a combination of corrosion resistance, long life, design flexibility and fast installation. Since large panels help with fast installation, we use the vacuum infusion manufacturing process to mold large, prefabricated panels.
FRP Ramps Make Commuting Much Easier
Our switchback FRP ramp provides an Americans with Disabilities (ADA)-compliant direct pathway that makes commuter time safer, shorter and more convenient for those that need a wheelchair accessible ramp in transportation areas.
Our FRP deck panels can be prefabricated in sections up to 30 ft. long. We design with the necessary deck weight and live load requirements. Custom design features include ramp landing panels with multiple slopes to drainage scuppers, a non-slip overlays and a guard rail that attached to integral curbs.
FRP Stairs for Platforms
Since many engineers are switching to FRP for their platforms, they also want to improve ancillary structures like stairs and railing systems with longer-lasting alternatives. This is particularly true for stairs systems that must survive chemical deicing systems during the harsh winter months.
Stairs and railing systems are a more cost-effective option since the FRP profiles are corrosion resistant and will not rust or rot like steel or wood. Our profiles are pre-assembled into stairs and railing systems for easy installation.
