Long Beach Boardwalk Replacement
The 2.5-mile Long Beach Boardwalk was severely damaged in October of 2012 during Hurricane Sandy and had to be replaced. CCG was selected to supply over 6,600 pieces of StormStrong 1580 sheet pile in 20-foot lengths. The sheet pile was used as a retaining wall to protect the boardwalk from future devastating storms. CCG had to meet a very tight schedule and to keep contractors on pace, as the seawall construction was the first of multiple parts in the project. The first of 23 total truckloads of StormStrong sheet pile was shipped in early May 2013, and shipment was completed by the end of July.
CCG was also contracted to supply 16 composite StormStrong pipe piles, each 60 feet in length, for the project. The piles were installed to support new concrete support bents. The project engineer chose StormStrong pipe piles and sheet piles for their long life, low maintenance and environmental friendliness.
